The former Germany midfielder believes Liverpool should feel disappointed as a relatively easy draw was coming their way.
Liverpool were dumped out of the Europa League last night as their disappointing campaign in Europe under Brendan Rodgers this season continued.
They lost on penalties to Turkish side Besiktas after Dejan Lovren blazed his effort over the bar in the Ataturk Stadium as Besiktas celebrated long into the night.
It follows Liverpool's inability to qualify from a Champions League group that contained the likes of Real Madrid, FC Basel and Ludogorets Razgrad.
Luckily enough for Liverpool their current domestic form is very good, so hope is high they can push on and make it to the Champions League through the Premiership. However, local rivals Everton are certainly revelling in the fact they are the only British club left in the competition.
Even more stinging was the draw for the next round. Besiktas, Liverpool's conquerors, have been drawn against Belgian outfit Club Brugge - a game they will certainly expect to win.
One former Liverpool player has now Tweeted on that draw, suggesting the team must be even more gutted not to have not overcome Besiktas now.
German midfielder Didi Hamaan Tweeted today:
What an opportunity missed by LFC yesterday with a tie vs Bruges in last 16 not to come. Puts added pressure on Sundays game now.— Didi Hamann (@DietmarHamann) February 27, 2015
Indeed Liverpool would have fancied their chances against the Belgian side but truth be told Liverpool have never really looked up to the European campaign this season, from the get go.
If they had scraped past the Turkish side they might have had relatively easy opposition in the Belgian side. But the way Liverpool have performed in Europe this season, nothing would have been for certain.
