The fall guy was Dejan Lovren who missed the decisive spot kick, leaving the pitch a dejected figure needing to be consoled by his teammates.
Daniel Sturridge and Lucas Leiva took to Twitter after the defeat, to express their emotions about the loss.
Another big game on Sunday. Thank you to all the away fans that travelled to show support tonight. We were unlucky. #redordead— Daniel Sturridge (@D_Sturridge) February 26, 2015

Sturridge showed that he is always thinking ahead, looking to the important Premier League game at Anfield against Manchester City this weekend.
Liverpool struggled to threaten over the 120 minutes, with Sturridge having one of the Reds' only four shots on target.
