Newcastle United manager John Carver has told the Chronicle what his approach will be just before the game against Aston Villa this weekend.
“I don’t think I will have to say too much to them before the game,” said Carver.
“I am hoping they will react the way I’m thinking they will - I think they have been positive this week so there is no reason why we can’t go into the game with a positive frame of mind.”
Newcastle need to start the game well, but it won’t be easy against a Villa side, which Tim Sherwood is trying to revive and keep away from the Premier League’s bottom three.
If Newcastle can make it through the opening period keeping their clean sheet intact, their confidence should grow and that should go right through the team up to the attack.
A good, positive start is also important for the club in terms of the home crowd.
There may be a few Newcastle fans heading to the game this weekend not entirely sure of what to expect considering the way the floodgates opened last weekend.
A positive and sensible start to the game should get the home crowd right behind the team, putting Aston Villa onto the back foot and allowing Carver’s men to take advantage.
