Aston Villa are better than Newcastle United in one area

St James Park

Newcastle United and Aston Villa both will be looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday.

Newcastle United and Aston Villa will take on each other at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday.

Hosts Newcastle will head into the clash placed 11th in the league table with 32 points from 26 matches, 10 points above the relegation zone and 14 points behind fifth-placed Southampton.

Meanwhile, Villa are currently placed second from bottom in the league table with 22 points from 26 games, level on points with 17th-placed Queens Park Rangers.

John Carver’s Newcastle side will head into the game on the back of a 5-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

It was one of the Magpies’ worst performances of the season and left them searching for their first win of the month.

Villa, too, are struggling for form at the moment and suffered a 2-1 defeat to Stoke City at Villa Park last weekend.

It was manager Tim Sherwood’s first game in charge of the Villans, who are one of the top candidates to suffer relegation to the Championship at the end of the season.

Newcastle will be favourites to win against Villa on Saturday, and the stats below prove that.

GoalsGoals ConcededTotal ShotsTotal Shots AgainstError Lead To GoalPossession Percentage/GameChances created/GameAccurate Pass/Game
Newcastle 31 42 308 305 7 47.69 8.69 322.88
Aston Villa 13 36 261 347 5 46.88 7.38 339.38

Villa have scored just 13 goals in 26 Premier League matches so far this season, and this has been their main problem.

The Villans have also taken only 261 shots and have had 347 shots against them, although only five of their errors have led directly to a goal.

As the above Opta Stats table shows, Newcastle are better than Villa in almost all departments, although the possession percentage and chances created per game are not that much better than those of Villa.

One area in which Villa are better than their hosts on Saturday is the number of errors leading to a goal (five to seven).

However, Sherwood’s side will still be the ‘underdogs’ against Newcastle at St. James’ Park on Saturday.
