Manchester United supporters are pleased that Tyler Blackett has signed a new contract today, keeping him at the club until 2017.
Blackett has stepped up this season after a defensive crisis provided him his chance, and he seized his opportunity to make an impression.
The 20-year-old has appeared 10 times for United this campaign, with his performances at the heart of their defence proving he has a future at Old Trafford.
Although the fact that he has only been offered a two-year deal suggests that the club feel he has plenty of development still to do, it is an indication that they value him highly.
United are famed for their ability to spot talent in youngsters and Blackett will now be looking to push on with his future secured.
The Red Devils have struggled defensively this campaign and he will realise that more chances could come his way if he keeps putting pressure on the starting line-up in training.
Louis van Gaal is clearly a fan of his and it seems that United supporters feel he has the potential to be a star at the club too.
Blackett signed his contract alongside Reece James, as United made a clear statement about their intention to continue to develop their own academy products, rather than simply filling their team with expensive additions.
Here is the best reaction on social media site Twitter to Blackett signing his new deal.
Lingard, McNair, Blackett and Reece James all signed to new contracts. Great news. Important for #mufc to keep youngsters at club.— Manish Pandey (@_ManishPandey) February 26, 2015
I think Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair will be our future dream team in the defense #MUFC— dh (@cridheone) February 26, 2015

Decent news about Blackett's new contract but I don't feel Reece James' should of happened because I don't think he's good enough #MUFC— De Gea in the sticks (@DeGea_Mata_) February 26, 2015
