Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has predicted in his Bleacher Report column that Chelsea will win the League Cup on Sunday.
Premier League leaders Chelsea will take on London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the final at London’s Wembley Stadium.
It promises to be a hugely entertaining and fiercely competitive game, and Collymore backs the Blues to edge it out.
“I won't be surprised in the slightest if it goes to extra time and penalties,” the 44-year-old wrote on Bleacher Report.
“But I think Chelsea will win it by the odd goal, possibly in extra time, because Jose Mourinho has a known love of this competition after it being the first trophy he won in England.
“Tottenham will put up a good fight, though, and it is going to be seriously close.”
Could Stan Collymore’s prediction come true?
Many football followers will back Collymore’s prediction, and indeed Chelsea will head into the clash as favourites.
The Blues have the better team, although successive draws mean that they need to step up their game against their London rivals.
One factor that could affect Chelsea adversely is the suspension of Nemanja Matic. The 26-year-old defensive midfielder is one of manager Jose Mourinho’s best players, but he will sit out the clash against Tottenham.
Much will depend on how Chelsea compensate the loss of Matic. If Chelsea are able to do that, then they should edge out Spurs.
