A player previously linked with Arsenal gave a wonderful performance against them on Wednesday evening.
The defensive-minded player had been excelling in La Liga and he looked like exactly the type of player Arsenal would benefit from bringing to the Emirates Stadium.
Instead he would move to Monaco, and such is football that he came up against his former reported suitors on Wednesday evening, as the Ligue 1 side took on the Gunners in the last-16 of the Champions League.
Monaco ran out 3-1 winners with Kondogbia himself opening the scoring, and the 22-year-old got the better of Arsenal’s Francis Coquelin in the battle of the defensive midfielders.
Such was Kondogbia’s performance that it begs the question: Will Wenger try to rectify what appears to be a big mistake and attempt to sign the player two years after he was tipped to do just that?
Kondogbia’s contract at Monaco currently runs until the summer of 2018, so if Arsenal are to bring him in it will take a big offer, and some canny negotiations, but the Frenchman showed this week just what he is capable of.

With a 94 per cent passing accuracy, a 100 per cent shot-accuracy, 12 duels won and seven succesful tackles, the Monaco man put in a masterful display in the middle of the park, and his contribution played a huge role in the advantage the visitors now hold.
The fact that he is also a year younger than Arsenal’s Coquelin tells its own story, and it could be that the Gunners are left to rue the missed opportunity for some time to come.
