The Argentine is one of the Premier League’s youngest head coaches and as such his playing days are not long gone.

As Tottenham face a challenge tonight in the Europa League against Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, Mauricio Pochettino will wish he has back in his prime and could don his boots to help the team get the result they need.

At 42 the Argentine is one of the youngest managers in the Premier League, with his playing days distinguished for club and country.

After graduating from the Newell’s Old Boys youth academy, the centre-half spent five years in the side’s senior squad before moving to Spain to sign for Espanyol.

Pochettino’s best years were played at the Barcelona-based club, where he spent a six-year stint from 1994 to 2000 before ending his career with the La Liga side in 2006.

The retired defender also played in France with Paris Saint-Germain and Bordeaux, while he stepped out for Argentina on 20 occasions, scoring two goals.
