Former Arsenal player Ray Parlour has suggested that Ramires is someone Tottenham need to be wary of in the League Cup final.
Former Arsenal star Ray Parlour named the player he feels Tottenham Hotspur need to be wary of this weekend in the League Cup final against Chelsea, on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show for talkSPORT yesterday.
The Blues have a very talented squad of players, but they will be missing key holding midfielder Nemanja Matic, which will force Jose Mourinho into a midfield reshuffle.
Parlour feels the Blues still have enough about them to give Tottenham some problems, while containing the more influential players in Mauricio Pochettino’s team.
“It’s a blow for them to be missing Matic, but they have cover – I think Ramires is going to be a vital player for them,” said Parlour.
John Obi Mikel would have been the natural replacement coming in to protect the back four, but a knee injury means he’s unlikely to play.
Ramires does have the experience of having played a holding role in the Chelsea midfield before, but it will be interesting to see whether he can show the same discipline as Matic and Mikel this weekend.
There aren’t too many weaknesses in the Chelsea line-up, but Tottenham could target Ramires and look to pull him out of position, which would create space for the likes of Christian Eriksen to exploit and Harry Kane to drop into.
If he maintains his discipline, it’s going to be difficult for Spurs to break through but if he gets too far forward then the Chelsea centre backs could become exposed and Tottenham can cash in.
