When Monaco beat Arsenal in pre-season at The Emirates the goalscorer was Radamel Falcao. His strike was his first since suffering a serious knee injury months earlier.
It was enough to suggest to Manchester United that he could recapture his previous prolific form, and the Red Devils managed to persuade the Ligue 1 team to let them have him on loan for the season.
That switch has not worked out, with the Colombian only scoring four times for United, and last night in the Champions League he was watching on as Monaco took on Arsenal once again, and won without him.
The striker sent out a message of congratulations via Twitter after the 3-1 away victory for Monaco, with Dimitar Berbatov among the scorers.
Félicitations Monaco pour le magnifique résultat c'est soir. Dague Monegu!!!— Radamel Falcao (@FALCAO) February 25, 2015
His message congratulated Monaco on their 'wonderful result', which he no doubt would have been part of had he stuck around.
Even if life was going well for him at United, he would be missing out on his old team's achievements, but the way he is struggling at Old Trafford to justify his reputation and price required for his permanent signature, makes Monaco's result a little painful for him.
Falcao has only ever played eight Champions League games in his career, instead a Europa League specialist, netting 30 in 31 appearances and winning the trophy in back to back years with Porto and Atletico Madrid.
Where he will be next season is anybody's guess, but Monaco seems like quite an attractive proposition right now.
