Former Everton striker Paul Rideout is excited about what the current side can achieve.
Former Everton striker Paul Rideout branded Roberto Martinez’s squad ‘superb’ on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show for talkSPORT.
Everton are in a great position heading into the second leg of their Europa League match against Young Boys this evening and Rideout feels a beneficial run of form isn’t too far away.
“I think the squad Roberto Martinez has assembled with very little money is superb – I don’t think a run of three or four wins in a row is too far away,” said Rideout.
Martinez has the luxury of being able to make a few changes to his team this evening, which will allow him to rest players ahead of the Premier League clash against Arsenal this weekend.
The Gunners go into the game off the back of a poor result against Monaco in the Champions League, where they lost 3-1 and Everton will be looking to take advantage.
Games against Stoke, Newcastle United and QPR follow if the Toffees can get a win over the Gunners and that run represents a good chance for the team to make good on Rideout’s prediction.
Everton have been missing key players in the form of Leon Osman and Steven Pienaar, but their imminent returns to the side are only going to improve the options at Martinez’s disposal.
Martinez does face a challenge in terms of rotating and keeping everyone fresh because Everton don’t have as big a squad as some of their Premier League rivals.
However, if he gets his team selection right from match to match, there’s no reason Everton can’t break into and consolidate in the top half of the table.
