Manchester United winger Nani has been speaking to the Daily Mail about his relationship with Louis van Gaal and his thoughts regarding the future.
The Portuguese international is currently on loan at Sporting Lisbon, where he is enjoying a brilliant spell, scoring nine goals and setting up an additional seven so far this season.
But in his latest interview he revealed that van Gaal has not been in contact and that he has lost touch with some of the United players he used to speak to.
When asked if the United manager had spoken to him to monitor his progress in his homeland, Nani replied, “No.”
He then added, “I receive some texts from Ed Woodward. He texted me about the goal and the great season I am having here.
“I used to speak to Antonio Valencia but I changed my number so it’s difficult.”
While Nani made it clear in the interview that he still loves United, it remains to be seen if he will return to the club and play regularly given the competition for places.
Some would argue that Nani’s pace and creativity is exactly what United need, as they toil to break down opponents and club-record signing Angel Di Maria struggles to impact games as many would have hoped he would.
But whatever the future holds, it is clear the United winger is enjoying life back at his former club, and as long as he keeps scoring great goals like the one he managed against Gil Vicente last weekend, there will be those who feel there is a place for him back at Old Trafford in due course.
