Michael Owen has written on social media site SportsLobster that Arsenal's defeat against Monaco only came as a surprise to people who overrate them.
Owen seemingly suggested that there were still a lot of issues at Arsenal and he feels that they are given too much credit by some people.
The former Liverpool front-man did say that he thinks Arsenal will win in the second-leg, but he claims he was not surprised that the Ligue 1 side were able to win so comfortably last night.
"Arsenal played poorly on the night but the only people surprised are those who continue to think they are better than they are," he wrote. "Saying that, I'd still take Arsenal to beat Monaco more often than not."
Arsenal's deficiencies were exposed against Monaco yesterday evening, with the French side running out comfortable winners at the Emirates Stadium.
Monaco won the tie 3-1 and the Gunners failed to ever lift their game to the level required.
The tempo of Arsenal's play was slow and there was a lack of ideas of how to break down a resolute Monaco side.
In the end they played right into their hands, with the likes of Dimitar Berbatov and Anthony Martial particularly threatening on the break.
The result leaves Arsenal's hopes of progressing in the Champions League in jeopardy, but Owen is clearly not too surprised that Arsene Wenger's men came up short.
