Manchester City media round-up: Suarez says City fans helped him to perform

A round up of news stories this morning related to Manchester City.

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has been quoted by the Daily Express suggesting Manchester City’s fans fired him up during the Champions League clash earlier this week.

Suarez bagged a brace for Barca to give them an advantage heading into the second leg over in Spain.

“There are certain types of players like me who get more inspired, more motivated, when fans boo them,” he said.

Suarez is one of several players that City will have to keep quiet at the Nou Camp.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has criticised his team’s performance in that game, with quotes reported by the Daily Express.

The Belgian says the result was down to a lack of focus and a bad start on the part of his team.

“It was mainly down to us not turning up - the way we played in the first half wasn't us,” he said.

City’s focus now turns to the Premier League and a difficult game against Liverpool.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers claims in the Daily Mail Manchester City will have the upper hand when they visit Anfield this weekend.

Rodgers’ claim has been made based on the short period of turnaround time for his team between their Europa League game against Besiktas and the Premier League clash this weekend.

“That extra period of 48 hours that they (City) will have could be crucial, certainly physically,” said Rodgers.

City are hunting another three points to keep the pressure up on Chelsea at the top of the table.
