Mackay-Steven gives Deila the perfect reason to select him against Inter

Celtic FC Stands 1

Celtic star Gary Mackay-Steven is full of ambition to play and do well against Inter Milan later.

Celtic star Gary Mackay-Steven has given Ronny Deila the perfect reason to select him for the game against Inter Milan later today, with quotes reported by the Glasgow Evening Times.

The winter arrival was superb in the first leg of the Europa League tie against Inter and has urged his manager to select him for the clash in Italy this evening.

“Last week did give me confidence. It’s what you dream about when you’re younger,” said Mackay-Steven.

“I've been lucky enough to be able to have that experience. I did it last week, I got a little taste for it and I want more.”

The determination is admirable and may impress Ronny Deila enough to select him from the start for the important game.

Celtic are under pressure because they conceded three away goals in the first game, but they showed positive qualities to fight back to still give themselves a chance in the tie.

Inter will pile on the pressure later and it’s important the Bhoys defend well and counter attack effectively, when they are given pockets of space around the pitch to exploit.

It’s also important they score the first goal. If Inter net first, they have the extra added security of those away goals, which will make Celtic’s job all the more difficult over the course of the game.

A result is possible although it will be difficult, but if every Celtic player shows the same determination levels and quality as Mackay-Steven, the side won’t go far wrong.
