Liverpool player ratings v Besiktas: Moreno and Skrtl stand out on the night

Liverpool crashed out of the Europa League in the round of 32 after a 5-4 shootout defeat at Besiktas, having drawn 1-1 on aggregate over the two legs.

Simon Mignolet 7/10 – Comfortable enough on the night, making a handful of composed saves to keep the scoreline close.

Kolo Toure 7/10 – Came up with a couple of vital interceptions on his return to the line-up. A solid showing overall, and one which further proved that he shouldn’t be viewed as a weak link.

Martin Skrtl 7.5/10 – A colossal effort in defeat. Dominant in the air and precise when distributing the ball out of the back. More significant, though, was his match-leading 21 clearances.

Dejan Lovren 6/10 – Made a one or two mistakes in normal time, including in the run up to the home side's goal, but was far from an awful performance. However, it’s the decisive shootout miss which will linger in the minds of fans.

Joe Allen 6/10 – Kept things simple with his neat passing but slowed down the tempo a bit too much when on the ball. Lucas Leiva’s return remains much-needed.

Emre Can 6/10 – A bit of a struggle back in his natural midfield role. Full of effort but a bit too wasteful possession, and couldn’t pick out that telling Gerrard-esque through ball to make up for it.

Jordan Ibe 5.5/10 – Somewhat of a comedown from his man of the match showing in the first-leg at Anfield. Couldn’t make his now-trademark daring runs, while Gokhan Tore proved too much for him to handle in defence. Have to remember he’s just 19, though.

Alberto Moreno 8/10 – As was evident last week, the wing-back role looks like his bread and butter. Often appeared Liverpool’s best attacking outlet when bombing down the left flank, while his defence is also improving.

Raheem Sterling 6/10 – Never had enough space to create much, as Besiktas kept him under constant and close attention.

Mario Balotelli 6/10 – Had a number of bright moments in the first-half but faded after the break having grown frustrated with the opposition's constant fouling.

Daniel Sturridge 6/10 – Still looks to be lacking a bit of match fitness. Spurned a couple of decent chances in the opening 45 minutes, while his touch doesn’t quite appear to be at its past level.

Javi Manquillo (Ibe 76) 6/10 – A bit of an upgrade over Ibe in defence but couldn’t offer much going forward.

Adam Lallana (Balotelli 82) 6/10 – Couldn’t make the desired impact after coming on.

Rickie Lambert (Sturridge 105) 6/10 – Didn’t do much during extra-time, aside from one decent knock down for Sterling, but converted his shootout effort with impressive confidence.
