John Carver on the encouraging quality he sees in Newcastle squad

Newcastle United manager John Carver has praised a specific aspect of his team.

Newcastle United manager John Carver has explained to the Shields Gazette what he feels is his side’s best quality.

Newcastle have had plenty of time to reflect on the thrashing they were given against Manchester City last weekend, as they look to react positively against Aston Villa this weekend.

“We had problems and they have some world-class players and sides come here better than us, with all respect, and take a hiding. The one thing about this group of players is they won’t give up,” said Carver.

Newcastle need a response this weekend and if the manager has been drilling a determined message into his players, they should start the game in tight and professional fashion.

It’s important the Magpies make it through the opening stages of the match without conceding and back the attacking players to gradually take control of the game.

A determined mentality is also important if the match doesn’t start as Newcastle will be hoping.

If they concede first, they need to show the mental strength to fight back in the game and not allow their heads to drop as was the case against Manchester City.

It won’t be an easy game against Aston Villa because Tim Sherwood is trying to shake things up and get Villa out of a scrap at the bottom of the Premier League table.

However, the Magpies have the home advantage and need to show their fans something, which works up an intimidating atmosphere and gets them excited about a positive response to a negative result.
