Liverpool centre back Mamadou Sakho has confirmed positive injury news for the club's fans.
Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has confirmed that he will be back in training with Liverpool this weekend.
The French defender has been out of action suffering with a hip injury, but has confirmed via his Twitter account that tests have confirmed he’s ready to resume training with the first team.
Good news as following the tests I had at the beginning of the week and after the medical staff 's opinion...— Mamadou Sakho (@mamadousakho3) February 26, 2015
... i can go back to training with the group on Saturday! Minewhile, I wish good luck to the whole team for tonight !— Mamadou Sakho (@mamadousakho3) February 26, 2015
The news will come as a welcome boost to Brendan Rodgers, who has used the Frenchman extensively throughout this season.
However, the game against Manchester City this Sunday may be a little too soon for him to make a competitive return to action.
It’s more likely that Sakho will be given an extended spell in training potentially playing for the under-21 side, before returning to the squad for the matches against Burnley or in the FA Cup against Blackburn next weekend.
Regardless of the fact Sakho is a key part of the first team squad under Rodgers, he can’t be rushed back into the team, which would risk making the problem he’s been carrying reoccur.
The risk is that could keep him out of action for even longer, which Liverpool would obviously prefer to avoid.
