Former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker has reacted to Roberto Soldado's terrible decision making against Fiorentina.
Former Spurs striker Gary Lineker reacted as many a Tottenham fan, with incredulity at Roberto Soldado's decision making against Fiorentina.
The Spanish striker was through on goal in the first half with the second leg 0-0 with only the goalkeeper to beat.
He elected instead to unselfishly pass the ball to Nacer Chadli who was unmarked alongside him, only to fluff his pass and roll it into the hands of grateful goalkeeper Neto.
Not sure I've ever seen a player as bereft of confidence as Soldado. Poor bugger!— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) February 26, 2015
Lineker put the error down to a lack of confidence, with Soldado's goalscoring struggles since signing for Spurs from Valencia two summers ago well documented.
The miss proved to be a costly one, with Mario Gomez and Chelsea loanee Mohamed Salah finishing clinically to eliminate Spurs 2-0 and 3-1 on aggregate.
For Soldado it was a bad miss personally too. His chances of game time have decreased as a result of Spurs exiting the competition, and any sympathisers among Spurs fans to his cause may have decided that his mistake was the last straw.
