French newspaper L'Equipe gives Arsenal star Olivier Giroud 2/10 for Monaco performance

Giroud And Jedinak

Olivier Giroud was picked out as Arsenal's worst performer by the French press.

Arsenal's players not only took a hammering on the pitch against Monaco and in the English press, but in the French newspapers too.

Well established paper L'Equipe did not hold back with their assessment of the Gunners' inept performance in the 3-1 home loss, illustrated by their player ratings.

Olivier Giroud copped the worst flak in his homeland, with his woeful efforts 'rewarded' with a rating of only 2/10. The striker cannot really complain either, he was hauled off after an hour by Arsene Wenger after having six shots, all off target.

This was only narrowly worse than a number of his teammates. Defenders Per Mertesacker, Kieran Gibbs, and Hector Bellerin were all given 3/10, along with record signing Mesut Ozil.

Only Santi Cazorla did enough in their view to be given 5/10, with Monaco's Geoffrey Kondogbia, Joao Moutinho and Anthony Martial getting the best ratings on the pitch at 8/10, and deservedly so.

Arsenal have a mountain to climb if they are to come back from the deficit in the away leg, and unacceptable performances from individuals like at The Emirates just won't be good enough against Leonardo Jardim's side.
