Chelsea-owned winger Mohamed Salah was on target for Fiorentina against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League on Thursday.

Tottenham Hotspur’s dreams of winning the Europa League were dashed on Thursday when they went down 2-0 to Fiorentina away from home.

Premier League outfit Tottenham headed into the second leg of the round-of-32 tie at the Stadio Artemio Franchi needing to score at least one goal, having played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg at White Hart Lane last week.

Spurs, though, failed to score in Florence and failed to win, losing the tie 3-1 on aggregate and going out of the competition which would have given them an alternative path to next season’s Champions League campaign.

Both of Fiorentina’s goals came in the second half. Mario Gomez took advantage of a mistake from Federico Fazio and broke the deadlock in the 54th minute.

Then on 71 minutes, Mohamed Salah made it 2-0 from close range following a blunder from Jan Vertonghen.

Salah was one of the better players for Fiorentina against Spurs and ended up with impressive stats of three shots, 97% pass accuracy, one chance created, 10 dribbles and one interception.

The 22-year-old Egypt international winger joined Fiorentina on loan from Chelsea in the January transfer window.

The former FC Basel youngster has been superb for the Italian club so far, scoring three goals and creating nine chances in five competitive appearances.

Salah’s goal helped Fiorentina knock Tottenham out of the Europa League, leading Chelsea fans to sing his praises.
