Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood has provided fitness updates on his squad ahead of the weekend's trip to Newcastle United.
Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has told the club’s official website that full-backs Alan Hutton and Aly Cissokho are both fitness doubts for the Premier League clash at Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.
Kieran Richardson, who started at left-back in last weekend’s 2-1 home defeat to Stoke before limping off just before half-time, has been ruled out for the trip, while centre-back Philippe Senderos is still not in contention to return.
Richardson’s replacement Cissokho is struggling himself, however, while Sherwood also has a problem at right-back where Alan Hutton has picked up a knock.
With skipper Ron Vlaar suspended following his late sending off against the Potters, the new boss finds himself short of defensive options for his second match in charge, and could be forced to call on some of the lesser-used members of the squad.
Matthew Lowton and the versatile Leandro Bacuna could be options to start on the right-hand side of the back-four, while Ciaran Clark could shift out to the left, allowing Nathan Baker to come in and partner Jores Okore in the centre.
Speaking ahead of the trip to the North East, Sherwood said: “We've picked up a few injuries. We're still waiting on a few. We have a few knocks in defensive areas. There are a few doubts.
"There is no-one ruled out, apart from Kieran at the moment. Kieran won't be fit Cissokho is a doubt. Hutton is touch and go.
"There's nothing definitive on them at the moment, though. Senderos is also out of training too.
"But it's an opportunity for other players to come in and impress."
