Andy Murdoch admits he is looking to emulate Lewis Macleod

The 20-year-old Rangers midfielder has signed a new deal with the Scottish Championship side.

Rangers midfielder Andy Murdoch admits he is looking to emulate Lewis Macleod, according to the club's official website.

Murdoch, 20, has just signed a new contract with Rangers and wants to be as much of a hit at Ibrox as Macleod - a midfielder of the same age - before he left the Scottish Championship side earlier this campaign.

Such was the midfielder's success that he caught the eye south of the border. Rangers ended up selling Macleod to Championship side Brentford for £1 million in January.

Naturally, Murdoch wasn't referring to Macleod's transfer away from Rangers but his ability to do well under difficult circumstances at Ibrox.

That's what the young Gers midfielder wants to reproduce for himself - and he is certainly doing a good job of it so far.

“Scoring was strange, I didn’t really know what to think at the time and I was just surprised it had gone in!" the 20-year-old reflected.

“Lewis Macleod came in at a hard time and he did very well so he is the type of player I would be looking to emulate.

“Hopefully if I keep playing well just now I can try and cement down a place in the starting 11 and that is what I want to do.”

Murdoch has very much been a shining light during a very testing period for Rangers in recent weeks.

Next up for the Gers is a trip to Falkirk on Friday night, where they will have the chance to leapfrog Hibernian in the Scottish Championship table into second place once more.
