Former Liverpool and Tottenham stars were unimpressed with Arsenal's performance
Arsenal were stunned in the Champions League as Monaco beat them 3-1 at The Emirates.
The Gunners had gone into the game as heavy favourites, but went behind through a deflected goal and were then stung on the counter attack.
To rub salt into the wound it was former Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov who scored the second of the game. Another player who once played for their rivals, Gary Lineker, also had particularly harsh words to say on Twitter.
It's extraordinary how many times Arsenal leave themselves so exposed to that kind of counter attack. Beyond amateurish!— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) February 25, 2015
His assessment was echoed by another ex-player turned pundit, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, admitted he could barely watch them.
Arsenal frustrate me so much & I'm not even a fan!— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) February 25, 2015
Arsenal now, having conceded three away goals, go to Monaco in three weeks time knowing not even a 2-0 win will be good enough for them to progress.
3-1 would take to to extra time, or they need to hope for a win by a margin of three goals or more. Given the ease of which they were opened up on the counter attack at The Emirates, and considering that they have to go out and attack, their prospects of qualification look far more dire than even the most negative Arsenal fan could have imagined going into the first leg.
