John Arne Riise confirms place in Steven Gerrard’s Liverpool farewell game

The Norwegian defender has stated on Instagram that he will take part in the emotional match at Anfield.

It may well not have truly sunk in yet for Liverpool fans, but talismanic midfielder Steven Gerrard is set to leave the club at the end of the season.

This fact may well become all the more real when a farewell fixture to honour the club’s captain takes place next month, with a host of former Reds coming together to take on the current side.

The likes of Fernando Torres and Pepe Reina have been confirmed as being set to feature in the clash, with the night set to showcase an array of the Anfield club’s best talent over recent years.

John Arne Riise has confirmed on Instagram that he will also feature in the clash, adding to the Kop’s trip down memory lane.

The Scandinavian left-back, who now plays for APOEL FC, was on Liverpool’s books for seven years in the 2000’s.

Riise played 234 Premier League games for the Merseyside club and netted 21 goals during his time at Anfield.

The Norwegian was a fans’ favourite and will be remembered fondly for his thunderbolt free-kicks, namely an unstoppable effort he scored against Manchester United in November 2001.

Riise was part of the Liverpool side that won the Champions League and also claimed one FA Cup and a League Cup triumph with the club.
