Brighton gave their survival chances a big boost, while Leeds United's recent good run on the road came to an end.
Brighton & Hove Albion recorded a crucial win over an in-form Leeds United side at the Amex Stadium last night, as Chris Hughton's side ran out 2-0 winners.
The result moves Brighton six points clear of Millwall, who occupy the last of the Championship relegation places, and they managed to overtake both Bolton Wanderers and Fulham in the process.
In some quarters the result will have been seen as a surprise given Leeds came into the game on the back of a big win over promotion-chasing Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium at the weekend. Neil Redfearn's men had won five of their last six games in the Championship prior to their visit to the South Coast and the Leeds boss bemoaned the fact his side couldn't build on a positive start to the game.
Sam Baldock and Inigo Calderon got the goals for the home side who backed up their win in a thriller against Birmingham City against confident opponents.
Leeds will be disappointed their run on the road has come to an end as they were aiming to make it four consecutive wins away from home in the league for the first time in 14 years when a side managed by David O'Leary was challenging for a place in the Champions League.
