It didn't go according to plan for Manchester City last night as Barcelona stormed the Etihad Stadium once again with a terrific first half display - which saw former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez score twice on his first game against English opposition since his summer departure.
As a result, City's defending was questioned, in particular that of their captain Vincent Kompany. He didn't have the best of times at the back, having in the past been renowned for assured, powerful performances where he usually gets the better of the opposition's forwards.
The City skipper was quoted before the game suggesting that games against Stoke City were possibly harder than facing the four-time European Champions, but he did struggle on the night, in particular for Suarez's second goal as the Uruguayan dazzled with his movement.
There seems to be an element of concern about the Belgian's form among the fans on Twitter but there seems to be a confidence from some that he will get back to his best in the near future. Others, however, are apprehensive about a player who is likely to go down as a legend at Eastlands.
Here is a selection of what has been said:
Kompany way off his best, he deserves a lot more respect & support of the MCFC fans after what he has done for this club. #Legend— Big Tone MCFC ⚽️ (@MCFCTone) February 24, 2015
Kompany hasn't had a decent game since returning from injury— Ste Firth (@stefirth) February 25, 2015
Am I the only one that things Kompany didn't play as badly against Barcelona as people are making out?— Thomas (@TomMCFC_) February 25, 2015
Just throwing it out there but could the reason for Kompany's recent lack-lustre displays be because he has no real competition?— BlueWolf (@BlueWolf1894) February 25, 2015
Yaya can't be there much longer than 18 months. I don't see Kompany getting any better. There's sadly no sentiment if you want to succeed.— Heart of Zabaleta (@corazondezaba) February 25, 2015
