Newcastle United midfielder Jonas Gutierrez has called on his personal experiences with John Carver to claim he should be given the top job at St James' Park beyond this season, via the Chronicle.
Carver is currently on a deal to the end of the season and it’s unclear at the moment whether he’ll be kept on or whether a new manager will come in.
“You always want the best for the manager, I have known John from five years ago, I hope that they (Carver and current set-up) can get it and stay permanent,” he said.
“All we can do is work hard and play well for them and get good results, we are working hard for them to keep the job.”
Gutierrez feels the current boss is the right man for the job and he’s well placed to suggest that because of his personal experiences of working with and playing for Carver.
That five years the pair have known each other has allowed them to create a bond, which wouldn’t have been possible if Carver didn’t have management credentials.
Ultimately, his chances of getting the job on a longer basis than to the end of the season are going to be determined by results.
If Newcastle react well to a heavy defeat against Manchester City and thunder into the top eight over the rest of the season, that’s the best possible way for Carver to show why the job should be his.
