James Ward-Prowse has explained Southampton’s mentality when they lose a game to the Daily Echo.
The Saints were well beaten by Liverpool last weekend but Ward-Prowse’s comments should offer encouragement to the club’s fans that there is a determination to react in the right fashion.
“As soon as we lose a game we want to get back out and, obviously, win again to get back on track. It’s a perfect opportunity next weekend to do that,” said the youngster.
It’s a positive statement and one which will delight manager Ronald Koeman because it removes the pressure from him to keep the squad in a positive state of mind in training.
It’s important he and the players stay focused on the positives looking ahead to this weekend and important matches to come.
The club is still in a very good position to attack the top four over the rest of the campaign with key players to come back into the team.
Those players could provide key areas of the team with a boost at key times, which could make the difference.
Koeman needs to curb the determination in training this week and funnel it into something productive.
If the Saints approach the game against the Baggies positively, they can vent their frustration at losing to Liverpool and use it to reward their travelling faithful this weekend.
