Tottenham Hotspur media round-up: Spurs legend on what he tells Pochettino before games

A round up of news stories this morning related to Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur legend Ossie Ardiles has told the Daily Mirror what he says to Mauricio Pochettino before games.

The pair have a good relationship and Ardiles is close to Tottenham although he doesn’t have an official role at the club.

“We have a little bit of a chat about anything that is happening - not just Tottenham, but things in Spanish football or other teams,” said Ardiles.

The former player could prove to be a good distraction for Pochettino ahead of the League Cup final against Chelsea this weekend.

TMW has reported that Fiorentina star Borja Valero is likely to miss the second leg of the Europa League tie against Tottenham this week.

The tie is balanced at 1-1 after the first leg and it will be interesting to see how Tottenham setup ahead of the League Cup final against Chelsea this weekend.

Valero is thought to have picked up a knee problem during the first game between the clubs at White Hart Lane.

Ardiles has also been quoted in the Daily Mail backing Erik Lamela to be Tottenham’s main man against Chelsea this weekend.

He says it’s the right time for Lamela to step up and be counted, backing the attacker’s mental strength after a difficult start at the club.

“Certainly this would be the right time to see the best of him. He has the right mentality to shine in this kind of game and to show what he can do,” he said.

Lamela has been striving to produce his best form at the club since he joined in August 2013.
