Sissoko comments suggest problems for Newcastle away from home

St James Park Four

Newcastle United star Moussa Sissoko has explained what the game plan was for the match against Manchester City.

Newcastle United star Moussa Sissoko has explained to the Shields Gazette the team’s plan for the game against Manchester City last weekend.

The Magpies were well beaten 5-0, as they failed to keep the champions from securing an emphatic win against Chelsea.

Sissoko has revealed the game plan before the game, which suggests a couple of flaws for the side.

“The plan was to stay solid and compact and try to score one goal if we can, but we conceded a goal too early,” said Sissoko.

“Everybody knows we didn’t play well. We have to learn about this game and try to win the next game.”

Newcastle went into the game with defensive injuries and it was always going to be a huge challenge for them to hold out against a side as talented as City.

Newcastle have to be a little more proactive in games against the bigger teams because if they sit back and try to take the pressure, they’re inviting trouble.

The side didn’t have an answer when City got in front and that will be a worry for Carver looking ahead to other games against difficult opponents.

Sitting back against teams like City allows them to have the majority of possession and work away on the Newcastle defence.

Any experienced team would have noted the club’s injuries in defence, looking to stretch players and pull them out of position to take advantage of any fatigue.

Newcastle now have two homes games against Aston Villa and Manchester United, which they need to use to try and get some momentum and confidence back.
