Rodgers says Coutinho's latest Liverpool strike could be Goal of the Season

Philippe Coutinho's latest goal for Liverpool has received special praise from the club's manager.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been speaking to the club’s official website about Philippe Coutinho’s wonderful goal against Southampton on Sunday.

The Brazilian midfielder let rip from distance, watching as it swerved into the top corner, leaving Saints stopper Fraser Forster with no chance of saving it.

That was Coutinho’s fourth goal of the season and it is wonderful to see the 22-year-old adding that quality to his game having recently penned a new long-term deal at Anfield.

Speaking about the strike, Liverpool’s boss said, “Young Phil has taken a touch and it was an incredible strike. It has got to be up there with Goal of the Season.”

That is a bold statement but there is no denying the brilliance of Coutinho’s effort and he is reaching peak form at just the right time.

The games are now coming thick and fast for the Reds, with Europa League and FA Cup action sandwiched in between a Premier League campaign that still promises much.

With the form they are in, some would argue it is Liverpool who are most likely to take the final Champions League qualifying spot, but that will only be the case if they maintain the form that has seen them start 2015 so well.
