Arsenal's record signing Mesut Ozil has signified he cannot wait for the Champions League knock out stages to begin for his side.
He sent a message on Instagram on Tuesday evening, with just over a day to go before kick-off between Arsenal and Monaco. It read:
26 hours left - we are ready for the UEFA Champions League. I simply love this tournament! #UCL#AFCvMON #YaGunnersYa
Ozil has played only two knockout games for Arsenal since signing, both ending in defeat. He missed a penalty last season in the home leg with Bayern Munich, and was substituted at half-time in the second leg after suffering an injury.
He will be desperately hoping for better luck this time around, and Arsenal have a more favourable draw, despite finishing second in their group once again.
The Gunners are favourites to progress against Monaco, and with the first leg at home, can attempt to put the game out of sight for the return in mid-March.
Ozil was called upon by ex-Arsenal star Charlie Nicholas, via SkySports, to 'step up' along with teammate Alexis Sanchez and justify their lofty reputations.
The stage is set for the German, and he is saying all the right things, now he just needs to deliver.
