Manchester United round-up: Another injury blow and youngster’s moment of madness

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

As reported by the Guardian, Manchester United striker James Wilson suffered an injury blow on Monday evening when he was replaced in the first half of the club’s under-21 match against Sunderland.

Wilson suffered a dead leg and was taken off six minutes before half-time, and with Robin van Persie leaving the Liberty Stadium on crutches at the weekend, it could leave manager Louis van Gaal with just two senior striking options for the match against Sunderland.

In other news, Tyler Blackett was sent off for United in that same match and will now be suspended from first-team action.

The young defender had a moment to forget as he shoved an opponent in full view of the referee and was subsequently sent off.

The decision means he now faces a three-match ban that will also affect first-team action.

Blackett started the season in fine form for United’s senior side but while Paddy McNair has been handed plenty of chances in recent times, his fellow defender has been used sparingly following the return of the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.
