Jamie Redknapp has been singing the praises of Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel in The Daily Mail.
The 30-year-old Slovakia international has been in impressive form for the Reds in recent weeks and has been a key figure in the team's upturn in form.
Skrtel was once again superb for Liverpool on Sunday, as the Merseyside outfit got the better of Southampton 2-0 at St. Mary’s Stadium in the Premier League.
The former Zenit Saint Petersburg centre-back played the entire 90 minutes and emerged with impressive stats of three interceptions, 13 clearances, five blocks and just one foul.
Former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp was impressed with what he saw of Skrtel against Premier League top-four chasing Southampton and wrote in The Daily Mail: “Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling will get the plaudits for their goals at Southampton on Sunday, but Martin Skrtel has been vital for Liverpool in recent weeks.
“It was brave by Brendan Rodgers to switch to a back three and he has made that system work. It shows you what an intelligent manager he is.
“But it’s players that make systems, and Skrtel has been a rock. It suits him to sit in the middle with men around him and he sees situations early.
“We know he’s a brave, combative player but he has shown he is a classy operator too, and he has helped Liverpool get right back in the race for the top four.”
Skrtel has been truly superb for Liverpool in recent weeks and is indispensable for the Merseyside outfit.
One of manager Brendan Rodgers’s more consistent players in defence, the Slovakian has been brilliant when deployed in the middle of the Reds’ three-man backline.
In 23 Premier League appearances so far this season, Skrtel has scored one goal and created three chances, while having a pass accuracy of 91% and winning 62% of his duels.

Liverpool were conceding goals quite frequently at the start of the season, but now defensively the Reds are looking very strong, thanks largely to the heroics of Skrtel.
