Jake Buxton reveals Derby's dangerous approach to remaining 14 games

Derby County defender Jake Buxton has stated the club have a very precise and clear plan over their final 14 league games.

Derby County defender Jake Buxton has told the Derby Telegraph the club has targets for their remaining 14 games this season.

The Rams take on Derby County this evening looking to maintain their position at the top of the table.

Buxton has suggested the club’s plan is based on the experience of previous heartbreak as well as a clear blueprint covering remaining games.

“We know there are going to be twists and turns between now and the end of the season,” he said.

“We’ve been in this position before, where we’ve got to the top, but we didn’t capitalise on it.”

“We’ve got 14 games left and we’ve got a target of what we want from those in terms of wins and clean sheets.”

Derby are now the targets for every team in the Championship. Sides are going to raise their games against Steve McClaren’s team and attempt to knock them off of their perch at the top.

The heartbreak of losing in the play-off final last season works for the club because it will give them that little bit of extra determination to succeed.

Needless to say winning the Championship or finishing second removes the equation of the play-offs from the situation.

In terms of setting targets over the last 14 games, that can be dangerous but it should keep the team moving in the right direction.

It’s dangerous because of the possibility of that plan being disrupted but there is enough experience in key areas of the team to keep everyone focused on the club’s main goal.
