The Chronicle has reported that Newcastle United want to move quickly to secure the long term future of young striker Tom Heardman.
The 19-year-old has been in great form for the reserve ranks with four goals in six games and he’s made such an impression on first team boss John Carver, the paper claims he’s already been invited into the first team ranks to train.
Newcastle deserve praise for looking to nip the issue of his future in the bud by getting him committed to a long deal.
That should help to prevent the distraction for the player of offers coming in from other clubs, if he’s able to maintain the form he’s shown for the reserve side this season.
Whether he gets a chance in the first team over the rest of the season remains to be seen, but Adam Armstrong is a good example of a player who has done well after getting a first team chance at the club.
The paper suggests that Newcastle will be reviewing a number of contract situations at Newcastle before the end of this season.
