Tottenham Hotspur need to focus on signing the right player to partner their prolific front-man.
For a long time Tottenham Hotspur have been crying out for a quality striker to be added to their squad; a world-class goal-getter or someone who could at least be placed in that bracket given time.
But that is no longer the case. Tottenham do not need a star-name simply for that fact. They do not need a player whose arrival will generate headlines across the globe, or one who will prompt the sale of shirts based on reputation alone.
What they need is a forward who can partner Harry Kane to great effect, a player who can work in tandem with the 21-year-old who has taken White Hart Lane by storm.
In many ways, Tottenham have found the player their fans have been crying out for – it turns out he was there all along.
But Kane’s emergence does not mean Spurs can take their eye off the ball in terms of replacements, it only means they need to sharpen their focus.
It would be a mistake to sign a number of the big-name stars linked with Spurs in recent times; and manager Mauricio Pochettino will know that.
He will now be working on ways to develop a strike-force that gets the best out of both Kane and the as yet unnamed ‘other’, because let’s face it : Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado are almost certainly approaching the end of their time at White Hart Lane.
Kane has solved one huge problem, but he may well have inadvertently caused another, because the trick now is to find – and sign – the player who can develop a deadly partnership with the youngster.
If that happens, there is no telling how far Tottenham can go in the seasons to come.
