Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Nabil Bentaleb didn’t mention the League Cup final once in comments reported by London24.
Bentaleb reflected on the draw against West Ham United last weekend and looked ahead to the second leg of the club’s Europa League tie against Fiorentina, without mentioning the impending Wembley final date with Chelsea.
“This is not the way we think, we’d be gutted if we go out of the Europa League. We’re going to go to Fiorentina on Thursday to win that game,” said the midfielder.
“It’s not like everything’s back in doubt because we drew against West Ham. We know what we can do, we know what we want to do before the end of the season and we will keep working.”
The message of determination and the focus on the next game, not looking too far ahead, is admirable.
It’s understandable how the prospect of silverware this coming weekend could be a distraction but as far as Bentaleb is concerned, it’s all about the next game against Fiorentina.
That match may be in a different competition, but the midfielder sees it as a chance for the team to react in the right fashion after dropping points against West Ham.
Make it through the Fiorentina game with no fresh injury concerns or worries and Tottenham can focus on gunning down Chelsea.
Until then, manager Mauricio Pochettino will want similar focus in terms of the next game from other players and that determination to get into the next round of the competition.
