Liverpool defeated Southampton 2-0 on Sunday to climb to within two points of a top-four place.
The Reds now have 45 points from 26 matches, with fourth-placed Manchester United just two points ahead on 47.
There is a lot of football still to be played, but the simple fact is Liverpool have embraced 2015 like few others and their undefeated league streak means they could well pip some of their illustrious rivals at the post when it comes to Champions League qualification.
After Liverpool’s win against Southampton, a number of Brendan Rodgers’ players took to social media to express their delight at another job well done.
Goal-scorer Raheem Sterling – who doubled Liverpool’s advantage after Philippe Coutinho had given them the lead – kept it succinct, writing, “Great three points.”
Dejan Lovren reserved special praise for the talented Brazilian while the recently returned Jordon Ibe hailed the character of the side, as Liverpool won in tricky conditions.
