Report: Everton keen on Manchester United outcast Nani

Blues boss Roberto Martinez said to be considering a summer move for on-loan Manchester United winger Nani.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez is keeping close tabs on Manchester United outcast Nani, according to the Daily Star.

Nani, 28, has been in solid form since returning to former club Sporting Lisbon on a season-long loan in August, scoring nine goals and adding seven assists in 26 total appearances.

The Portuguese winger’s performances earlier in the campaign even led to suggestions that Louis van Gaal wanted to recall him this winter, per the Independentbut United failed to include a recall clause in his deal.

While now set for a summer return, it remains to be seen whether he still has a future at Old Trafford, with Martinez in the meantime sending scouts to watch him in action in preparation for a potential sale.

The Toffees boss is well-known for his fondness for skilful wide man, having taken on the likes of Gerard Deulofeu, Christian Atsu and Aaron Lennon during his time at Goodison Park and, with Kevin Mirallas’ future up in the air, he could be viewed as a solid replacement for the Belgian.

With a reported £15 million price tag, per the report, a star of his talent would seem worth the risk, but he has spoken in the past about his willingness to return to United to fight for his first-team place.

“Why not?” he told the Daily Mail following Portugal’s 1-0 win over Argentina at Old Trafford in November. “I went out to play more and get to my best, and it is an opportunity. We will see.”
