Cheikhou Kouyate’s performance for West Ham United against Tottenham Hotspur impressed former Manchester United and Liverpool star Michael Owen.

Michael Owen has been singing the praises of West Ham United midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate on BT Sport.

The 25-year-old has been a key player for the Hammers so far this season and was once again superb for the London outfit against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Kouyate played the entire 90 minutes of the Premier League encounter at White Hart Lane and emerged with impressive stats, as shown in the table below:

Former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Owen was co-commentating on the game for BT Sport and picked Kouyate as his ‘Man of the Match’.

“I am going to go for Cheikhou Kouyate today… scoring the (opening) goal, his energy was a real boost for West Ham,” said the 35-year-old. “He pushed into the central midfield area, and had a solid and energetic look in there.”

Kouyate dominated in the centre of the park and was certainly one of the best players for West Ham in the 2-2 draw against Spurs in the London derby.

The former Anderlecht star got more freedom to go forward because of the presence of Barcelona-owned midfielder Alex Song behind him, but he was also key in stopping Spurs from launching attacks.

Kouyate, who scored the opening goal of the match midway through the first half, played an all-round game in central midfield.
