Leeds fans react on Twitter to Scott Wootton signing a new contract

Leeds United handed a new contract to defender Scott Wootton today, with fans reacting on Twitter afterwards.

After three clean sheets in a row, Leeds United are building a sturdy defence - and now they're making moves to keep the players involved.

Leeds confirmed earlier today that defender Scott Wootton has penned a new contract with the club, meaning he will now stay until 2017.

Wootton, a 2013 signing from Manchester United, had struggled to make an impact at Elland Road, and it seemed that he had no future at the club when he joined Championship rivals Rotherham United on loan back in November.

However, he has since returned to Leeds, and is a regular under Neil Redfearn - even in an unfamiliar right back role, allowing Sam Byram to move forward into midfield.

Usually a centre back, Wootton has completely rebuilt his career under Redfearn, and his recent performances have resulted in a new one-year contract extension.

Fans took to Twitter after the announcement to discuss Wootton's extended stay at Elland Road, with the majority praising him for not giving up even after being farmed out on loan to a direct Championship rival.

Some were a little more underwhelmed, suggesting that a short burst of form wasn't enough to merit a new contract extension, but the general consensus was a positive one.

Here are the reactions from Leeds fans as Wootton extended his stay at Elland Road...
