Kris Commons' message to Ronny Deila ahead of mammoth Inter clash

Celtic Champions League

The Celtic midfielder has assured his manager he wants to be in the starting XI on Thursday night - and in the long run.

Celtic midfielder Kris Commons has assured boss Ronny Deila he wants to be part of his side's starting XI against Inter Milan in the Europa League on Thursday night - and in the long run, according to the club's official Twitter feed.

The 32-year-old returned from injury against Hamilton Academical on Sunday afternoon, scoring twice as the Bhoys won 4-0 to take their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership back to three points.

But Commons has warned against overplaying or rushing his return. As such, it was important for the Celtic man to take his time coming back.

That, in turn, will help him play more regularly for the Bhoys, as he says he is uninterested in an occasional appearance with the extended break that could follow if he isn't careful.

When it comes to Thursday night's trip to Inter, meanwhile, Commons has hinted to Deila about how much a start would mean to him...

After Thursday night, Celtic face a game just as important when it comes to their league ambitions, as they host second-placed Aberdeen in a top-of-the-table clash.
