Former Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic showed he is ready to take on Celtic later this week, with an impressive display against Cagliari.
Inter played on Monday night, a day later than their Europa League opponents who beat Hamilton on Sunday lunchtime.
They won 2-1 through goals from Mateo Kovacic and Mauro Icardi, with star man Xherdan Shaqiri rested along with two-goal hero at Parkhead, Rodrigo Palacio.
Vidic was brought back into the side after missing out on the starting line-up in the first leg, still feeling the effects of a thigh injury.
Reports later surfaced in the Daily Record of Vidic rowing with manager Roberto Mancini after the defender reportedly took too long to warm up as a substitute late in the game, but any drama seems to have been put behind them.
Vidic played all 90 minutes against Cagliari, winning three tackles and making five interceptions. He also made 10 clearances and won six aerial duels, and in each case his tally was the highest in the Inter Milan side during the victory.
With Juan Jesus and Andrea Ranocchia both looking fallible at times against Celtic, there is a good chance Vidic comes back into the team this Thursday.
The away win over Gianfranco Zola's Cagliari is a confidence boost for the whole Inter squad, but for Vidic in particular it was the ideal warm-up.
