Having arrived at Stamford Bridge to high expectations, it’s no surprise that Chelsea fans were disappointed to hear news of Thorgan Hazard’s permanent move to Borussia Monchengladbach.
Hazard, 21, first joined Chelsea from Lens in 2012 soon after his superstar brother Eden, before spending the following two campaigns on loan at Belgian Pro League side Zulte Waregem.
Shipped out on another season-long loan to Monchengladbach in the summer, the creative midfielder has since made 29 total appearances for the Bundesliga club, while recording four goals and eight assists in the process.
His performances earning him widespread praise, the German outfit have now moved to make his stint full-time for €8 million, despite Jose Mourinho signing his praises just last month.
“He’s a good player. A player we like. He’s one of the few players that I travel to see play live,” the Chelsea boss told West London Sport.
“We like him very, very much but there is here one player ahead of him who is not bad called Hazard. Eden.
“If we don’t need [to sell] I don’t want to. He is one of the players we have on loan that has the potential to play for Chelsea one day.”
Despite penning a deal until 2020 at Borussia-Park, Hazard could still don a Blues shirt down the road, with the club having the right to exercise a future repurchase option written into the contract.
Nevertheless, after supporters had been hoping to see him star in the same side as Eden soon rather than later, news of his permanent departure lead to a fair amount of Twitter backlash, as well as some more optimistic responses.

Shame to see Thorgan Hazard leave us permanently. The idealist in me always wanted to see him and Eden on opposite sides of our attack. #CFC— Paul Gellard (@PauloSimao55) February 23, 2015
Thorgan Hazard goes for 5.9 mil but we have a buy back clause until 2020. I have no doubt we will exercise that option before then. #CFC— Aaron Trowse (@trowser23) February 23, 2015
