Villa fans react on Twitter to Ron Vlaar's performance against Stoke

Aston Villa 2

Aston Villa lost 2-1 to Stoke City on Saturday, but what did fans make of Ron Vlaar's contribution?

It was all going so well for new Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood.

After watching his side win against Leicester City in the FA Cup fifth round last week, the recently appointed boss looked like making it two wins from two matches when Scott Sinclair put Villa ahead against Stoke City.

Mame Biram Diouf equalised for the Potters but a point would still have been welcome, but Ron Vlaar’s poor control and frantic tackle on Victor Moses saw Stoke awarded a penalty and the Dutchman given his marching orders.

That spot-kick was converted by Moses himself, leaving Sherwood to reflect on exactly what he has inherited.

But what of Vlaar’s contribution; after all, aside from giving away a penalty and seeing red, the Villa centre-back failed to win a single ground duel or aerial battle all afternoon.

He also won just two interceptions, making Sherwood’s decision to bench Jores Okore all the more baffling.

After the match we took to Twitter to see what Villa fans thought of Vlaar’s performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
