Video: Ex-Arsenal target Josip Drmic scores in Leverkusen draw

Bay Arena - Bayer Leverkusen

The Switzerland international got a rare start for the BayArena side yesterday and netted in a 2-2 draw with Augsburg.

Arsenal were reportedly close to signing Josip Drmic in the summer, but the attacker ended up staying in Germany and moving from Nurnberg to Bayer Leverkusen.

However, the 22-year-old has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at the BayArena this season, with the Switzerland international largely used as a substitute this term.

With Leverkusen taking on Atletico Madrid in the Champions League this Wednesday, back-up option Drmic was afforded a rare start for the Bundesliga side yesterday in their 2-2 draw against Augsburg.

As can be seen above, it only took the Swiss attacker eight minutes to net the game’s opener, taking his personal goal tally to four strikes this season - despite only starting three games.

Given that Drmic is struggling to make a consistent impact at Leverkusen, it appears that Arsenal made the right choice not bringing him to North London in the summer.
