Newcastle United fans slam Fabricio Coloccini on Twitter after Manchester City debacle

Alan Shearer's outraged reaction to Newcastle's embarrassing display at Manchester City was shared by supporters.

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer was not happy with his former side after their absolute humiliation at Manchester City on Saturday evening.

But he wasn't the only one. His strong-worded reaction to the Magpies' dire display was replicated by plenty of fans and it would've been difficult for many to single out any particular culprit.

A good day for Manchester City, who cut Chelsea's lead at the top of the Premier League back to five points, proved a real nightmare for visiting Newcastle - and very few of their players turned up at all.

Who knows what John Carver was thinking as he bumbled his way towards another game without a win (he has only won once as Newcastle boss).

But a bigger mystery is perhaps what Fabricio Coloccini was thinking as Manchester City scored goal after goal. While Magpies fans found it difficult to blame anyone specific, Coloccini's name kept on popping up on Twitter more than most - with an apt description of his performance calling it 'horrific.'

The 33-year-old was not only blamed for seemingly running away from the man he was supposed to be marking time after time but his definitive lack of leadership at the back. He is, after all, supposed to be Newcastle United captain.

Here's the pick of the reaction as Newcastle fans took to social media in the wake of a truly embarrassing performance at Manchester City...
