Liverpool supporters currently appear to rate the 19-year-old higher than one of their biggest names.
The question generated a huge response - and the majority of that response favoured the less-experienced Ibe.
One Liverpool star is 19, having only just broken into the Reds' first team. The other, though, is only a year older and experienced his breakthrough moment what now seems like a lifetime ago.
But it is Ibe, intriguingly, that seems to be a fan favourite right now.
Many feel the Liverpool youngster is a more rounded player than Sterling, who relies more on pace than other facets of his game.
And the 20-year-old also looks as though he could be out of favour with a number of Reds fans for his reported ongoing contract saga - a notion suggested by a couple of the comments our readers posted.
Along with comments on the original article, fans of our HITC Liverpool Empire Facebook page also joined the debate and picked who they feel will ultimately develop into the better player.
See below for a selection of Liverpool supporters' fascinating views...
Michael Swift on Facebook: Got to admit Ibe looks like he's got the touch of Henry crossed with power of drogba about him , Sterling more about pure pace.
Phil Quigley on Facebook: Ibe without a doubt
John Neish on Facebook: No doubt about it Ibe got pace power accuracy an not afraid to shoot on goal
Kevin Doyle on Facebook: The question should not be who could be the best out of the two players, but how good the two players could be for Liverpool
Thomas Janty Johnston on Facebook: Ibe has a bit more about him. His final ball is a lot better, which in that position is vital.
Kenneth Dickinson on Facebook: Ibe, seems more grounded and doesn't think he's a superstar already.
Ronny (comments) says: When Sterling made his breakthrough Liverpool team were really poor so Sterling was able to make it as he faced no competition at all but Liverpool team were really good when it was time for Ibe to make breakthough so different path was taken for him.But IMO Ibe will be much better player than Sterling in the future because he has everything pace, power, skill and even his shooting skills are great.Liverpool also have Sheyi Ojo and i think he will be ready to compete with these two in 2 years time because he is equally as talented as these two.
Fix70 (comments) says: Wow! Characters with beer guts criticizing a 20 year old. Guys why not just enjoy the fact that we are blessed with two immense talents. What guarantee do we have that we won't have to deal with a rebellious and insolent up-and-coming youngster in future? We have Chirivella, Sinclair and Ojo yet to come. They'll all pose different challenges. So let's not lose sight of what's important-the team.
Shawn reid (comments) says: I agree about the situation [that Sterling's contract situation is influencing fan opinions towards him]. We don't know precise details. All i know is whether your name is Ibe, Ojo or Rossiter any player coming up thru the ranks after Raheem Sterling will note the feeling from the fans towards a player who is their senior and a team mate. The fans build up players and then tear them down. Steven Gerrard.
